The latest and greatest at Pebbles and Polka Dots Photography ~ we’ve expanded!

This is such an exciting time for me here at Pebbles and Polka Dots Photography.

Just a year ago I was running this business out of my home and now I am in a 1000sq ft studio and have a calendar full of bookings through Feb 2013 already. Fortunate and grateful I am so.

I never would have thought this business would have exploded like it has. I love being so busy, but I also want to make sure that I am saving enough time for my family too. Being a mom of a 6, 4, and almost 2 year old is a job in itself. And lately I haven’t been around on the weekends for our “family time”. My husband is amazing and steps right in as Mr.Mom and does an amazing job and is 100% supportive. But the mom guilt still kicks in and especially when I stop and really look at one of my kids and think, “my gosh he or she is getting so big”. It makes me sad that I am letting it pass by and not taking it in as much as I feel like I should be.

For this reason, I have made the decision to hire another photographer part-time to help me with my workload. I have hired Tina Chamberland to take over the 1 year cake smash sessions and occasional 6 month session as well. And I am soooo excited about it. I will still be editing and retouching all of the photos she shoots so that they still carry the same Pebbles and Polka Dots photography look. But this takes immense pressure off of me to be at the studio every week and weekend shooting all day long. Tina has actually been a client of mine since the beginning and has been working in the photography field for many years. Awhile back she had asked about coming aboard, and I have been talking this over with her for months now and finally took the leap. I have been blown away with her photography skills and quick learning of the way Pebbles and Polka Dots sessions flow. She has shadowed with me now for hours upon hours and has viewed my set setups from beginning to end and prop picking madness.:)

Being that I am mainly a Maternity and  Newborn photographer, to keep attaining new clients as they have their little babes, I feel like this is the best way to keep up with the client demand. To be able to keep offering the Baby’s First Year package and Family sessions in the Summer and Fall seasons as well is very important to me and my clients. I will be the only photographer doing the Maternity and Newborns as I have been studying this for years and have mastered the posing, newborn safety, soothing techniques you need to master before tackling a newborn session properly. Tina will be at the studio for the 1 year sessions, occasional 6 month, and also be shooting the mini sessions with me as well for the Fall. This way we can accommodate more clients as we sell out of these minis in the first 24 hours after posting to the Facebook page and I know many of you get frustrated or disappointed. Which I don’t want you to be!!:)

I thought for awhile about hiring a graphic design artist to edit all my work for me so that shooting would be most of my work week. I mean the sessions are only half of it. Then coming home and uploading, sorting, and editing the images is usually about 4-5 hours a session. I know a lot of professional photogs that just shoot and have others edit them. But I am waaaaay to particular, and a control freak with my photos and knew that I would still be spending to much time looking at each one and making sure it was where I wanted it to be. So that wouldn’t work. Plus the idea of handing off my memory card to someone else makes me feel uneasy as well. I want to have the final touch on everything.

Last week when I hired Tina it was the best feeling. A huge weight lifted off my shoulders and I am so excited to have her as part of my team. Just like when I hired the Office Manager Tabitha, it has taken the pressure off of me to be the everything. Letting my creativity flow even more and planning for amazing and gorgeous photos for you all.

It makes me tear up when I think of what I want to say to all my clients. I get this overwhelming feeling of thankfulness and happiness. You have let me into your lives, we’ve become friends, and you’ve allowed me to capture the most precious times in your children’s lives. It’s beyond special to me. And the fact that you keep coming back over and over. I’m just so grateful. You allow me to do what I love. And I love you for it. <3

Stay tuned next week for a big blog post all about Tina!!:) Trust me when I say that you will love her!!! She is an amazing girl and is such a good person. Her story is one to be told. xo
